Supporting future energy use in London
In February 2011 National Grid embarked upon a seven-year project to rewire the capital via deep underground tunnels, in order to meet increasing electricity demand.
The London Power Tunnels project has created a new 32km electricity superhighway deep below the capital, which helps keep Londoners connected to safe and reliable electricity supplies. The project is being opened in 2018.
